Oltenia

Oltenia is a historic region in southwest Romania, delimited east by the Olt River, south and west of the Danube, and north of the Meridionali Carpathians. Oltenia is distinguished both by the charm offered by nature and by the extraordinary tourist potential and by the rich history that still persists today and is found in the spirit of the local people and places, but in the habits and crafts learned from the ancestors and transmitted from generation to generation.

What can be more beautiful than a tour through this wonderful land of Oltenia where the mountains, water and the plain combine with a rich history, the living traditions preserved so far, and merry, open and welcoming people.

Oltenia offers numerous unsenting tourist objectives such as the Valley of Olt where you will meet various tourist objectives and spas with tradition or the Jiu Valley with its monasteries, archaeological objectives and caves. Transalpina is also perhaps the most spectacular road in the country connecting Oltenia and Transylvania at heights over 2000 meters passing through the Parang Mountains, from the Meridionali Carpathians.

A walk near Orșova city reveals Decebal's carved face, which is the largest stone statue in Europe, and the experience can be even more interesting if you go on a cruise on the Danube from where you can see the statue and the landscape much closer.
