The wine road in Prahova County passes through several localities located in the picturesque Dealu Mare area, one of the most famous wine regions in Romania.
Distance 111 km
The region has high winemaking potential due to a temperate microclimate and excellent position in relation to the sun, similar to the vineyard hills of Bordeaux or Tuscany.
Between Ploiești and Buzău, on the road that runs roughly parallel to the national highway, you'll cross entire hillsides of vineyards that stretch as far as the eye can see. To find out which grapes are grown on which side of the hills, you'll need to stop at one of the many wine cellars along the route. The oenologists will explain the production process - specific to each winery - and the particular characteristics of the wines.
The route can be covered in one day by car or in stages by bike. Autumn is the ideal time to visit, when the grapes are picked, but the sights are open all year round. Along the way, stops at several museum mansions can be included.
Some wineries also function as accommodation if you want to stay in the area.
For wine tastings, it is recommended to book a few days in advance.
