This stage does not contain single trails, but still is with its 70 km and 1890 meters in height a challenge. A second battery or a battery charger might be useful.

Next to the beautiful nature the following attractions and highlights may contribute making this tour an unforgetable experience:

  • A refreshing bath in the morning in the Wolfgangsee,
  • with a tour to the huts at the Postalm and a last view to the Wolfgangsee,
  • the historical old road Postalmstraße along the Aubach,
  • the lonley Ameisensee, which is not for swimming,
  • as well as the mountain pastures and huts with view to the Dachstein.

Author’s recommendation

Exact planning for the batteries, as a couple its easier with 3 batteries and a charger.

In any case before the start a bath in the lake is recommendable, because in the area Gosau the water of the lakes is most of the times colder.

A snack for the way might be a good idea, so you can take a break on the way. The Falmbergalm gives later on a nice opportunity for a rest.

Tips and hints

As new figures on the playing field of mountain and recreational sportsmen, we E-MTB riders have a special responsibility to behave appropriately.

In Graubünden bikers and hikers share the paths. A project that should set a precedent. But this can only be done with mutual respect. Black sheep throw us back years.

With common rules of play, we ensure that the forest will continue to provide a unique recreational and living space as well as jobs for everyone in the future.

Turn-by-turn directions

Starting from the tourist office in Strobl we follow the signs "BergeSeen 4", take the way in the Moosgasse and turn left into the Bahnstraße, which we will leave shortly after to the right in the Ischler Straße. This street we follow until the crossing of the Salzburger Straße. Turning to the left we pass under the B158 to move on in direction to Postalm. In Unterberg we turn to the right (564 hm, km 2,0) further to the Postalm on a tarmac road, which is also used by cars. We follow the road 10,9 km and turn after the Lesserhütte (1143 hm, km 12,9) to the forest road in direction to the Thoralm (1330 hm, km 15,1). The forest road leads towards the Huberhütte. A stop at the restaurant Gasthof Wiesenalm and then further to the Erlbachalm (1361 hm, km 16,4) will be rewarded with a last view to the Wolfgangsee. A very last lookout point to the Wolfganagsee bei Strobl you will have from the place Hoisnrad. Now a forest roads leads aus further via Wieslerhütte to the parking of the Panoramahütte. Here we take the track to the right (1333 hm, km 17,9) in direction to the Rosserhütte and to the Innerlienbachalm. We cross the creek at the Innerlienbachalm (1213 hm, km 20,1) and drive downwards on the right side of the creek along the old Postalmstraße.

Passing the Abtenauer Hütte on the left side we turn after 1,8 km at the Außerlienbachalm (km 21,9) to the right, so that soon after that we turn left into the Postalmstraße (1140 hm, km 22,3).

The old Postalmstraße is historical and since a long time closed for the public traffic. Our journey carries on via bridges and canyons along the creek Aubach. After about 6,2 kilomters we come to a crossing (758 hm, km 28,5), which we pass straight ahead. After about 3,7 km we cross the Aubach, refresh ourselves below the bridge in a deep rock pool and carry on until after 1,5 km we leave the forest, where there is an old wooden house on the right side. At this crossing we go straight ahead on a tarmac road until Pichl. This point offers us again a breathtaking view to the Dachstein, which will accompany us until the end of this stage.

Just before the B166 Lammertal Bundesstraße we turn to the left and follow the creek Lammer upstream. To our left we pass the "Voglauer Werke" and turn to the right in a small side road, which takes us over the Russbach.

After crossing the creek we turn to the left (km 42,7) and a serpentine road is going upwards in direction to Hornspitz, where after 3,7 km the track turns again from a tarmac road into gravel (979 hm, km 46,4) and we enter the forest. During the uphill it is worth it turn back and have a look every now and then. A beautiful view to the Tennengebirge, Bleikogel, Fritzerkogel, Schwarzer Berg, Trattberg and Hohe Zinken, in between the Postalm and the Gamsfeld are in front of us.

We follow the well-marked cycle path via the Klockaualm, the Ameisensee (1293 hm, km 49,8) and turn before the Edtalm to the left with an impressive view to the glacier Dachstein (1319 hm, km 52,9) in direction to the Hornspitz. We carry on 3,5 kilometers through the skiing resort and before we reach the peak of the Hornspitz (1402 hm, km 55,3) we turn to the right downwards again. After 2,6 km we reach the Falmbergalm (km 57,9) which is in particular popular for mountainbikers.

We carry on downwards in direction to Paß Gschütt, which we reach after 4,7 kilometers. The way there offers us the one or the other view to the Gosautal, Dachstein and to our stage of tomorrow via the Durchgangalm. We cross the B166 downwards to the right, so that we take after few meters on the left side (895 hm, km 62,9) a gravel road through the Rinnwandgraben in direction to Gosau. We carry on our tour on this path, which leads us further downwards, and cross the B166 straight ahead at km 68,6. Passing the Chalet Edelweiss we turn after 600 m from the B166 to the right till the Steinermühle. (km 70). 100 m later again to the right and after 500 m we reach our final destination for today, the center of Gosau.
