The Central Park is a real oasis of relaxation for Cluj, as well as one of the tourist objectives, usually on the list of those who visit Cluj.

The history of the park begins in 1827, when the organization of the Women's Charity Association rented the land, then a wild terrain, with the purpose of establishing a recreational place. The park was opened to the public in the early 1830s, initially having the name of the Popular Garden.

In 2010, the Central Park was included on the list of historical monuments in Cluj County.

In recent years, cultural or recreational events are organized periodically in the Casino building or on the alleyways of the park, thus making the park a very pleasant place for spending free time. Also worth mentioning are the special locations where many locals hang their hammocks and spend a few relaxing hours in nature. User

Turn-by-turn directions

We start from the tram station Opera Magiară de Est and follow the route on János Arany street. On the left side we can see the building of the Faculty of Chemistry and then a series of magnificent villas, built at the beginning of the 20th century.

At the end of this street we continue straight ahead and enter an alley of the park that takes us almost in front of the Casino. Turn here to the left and run a fine portion, until the edge of the park (given by Cardinal Iuliu Hosu street). Turn right and stay on an alley that runs parallel to this street, until you pass the Chios Restaurant building. During this period, on the right side we can admire the Lake in the Central Park with the swans and ducks that come here.

Follow the path on the right. On the other side of the restaurant we will see, on the other side of the road, the Arena Cluj stadium - we are at the western end of the park. Also here we find a public toilet.

We continue the run following the park's driveways to the north and follow a path parallel to the Splaiul Independence, which represents the northern edge of the park. Behind the street we can see the waters of Someșului Mic and a little further, looking to the northeast, we see the Hotel Belvedere on the Cetățuia hill. The trail turns to the right and, after almost 2 km, takes us to the point where we started.

Public transport

Public transport friendly

Tram 101 takes you to the starting point: the Hungarian Opera.

Bus: Line M26 stops right in front of the Anti-Communist Resistance Monument, a few steps from the starting point.

The route can also be started from the western side of the park. Here the buses on lines 30 and M26 leave you at the station on George Coșbuc Street.

Not far from the southern entrance to the park are the bus stations of Children's Hospital and Calea Moților where the lines 1, 6, 7, 9, 19, 24, 24B, 25, 29, 30, 42, 52 do stop.

Parking is more difficult, you have to rely on luck and on the parking spaces at the Cluj Arena. It is best to leave your car at the hotel (or at home) and use public transport.
