An easy walk in the woods, leading to the Breite oak tree reserve. From some spots, beautiful panoramas open up toward the city and the surroundings.
Distance 5.2 km
The hike starts on Ana Ipătescu Street, following a path between two houses. You'll see two official markings: one is made by the Transylvanian Highlands Association (red band) and another by NGO Via Transilvanica. The latter - part of the VT national network - comes from the city center.
From the starting point, follow the path that will quickly start to climb quite steeply. After a few hundred meters you reach a turning point from where you have a beautiful view over Sighisoara. The path then enters the forest. The rest of the climbing parts are easy and they will lead you to the plateau area where you'll see the old oak trees. Mind that the area has been invaded by the European hornbeam (Carpinus betulus) lately.
Explore the entire plateau at ease. The most picturesque oak has a swing attached. In rainy weather, the soil may be very muddy. Also, the path - especially the clearer parts of the forest - becomes slippery. Don't ignore the wild animals warning, especially after dusk.
The sun sets beyond the plateau. Get here at the golden hour when the view both in the reserve and over the city is spectacular.
