Rosedale East side old ironstone railway line and buildings. Brilliant views on a good day. Ignore the distance shown as I forgot to end my track recording. The kilns are less than 1/2 mile from the railway yard.

I parked at Hill Cottages up the Dale from the village. As I use a power chair the climb up past the farm is no problem. I suggest that a manual wheelchair user drives up and past the farm to park in the old railway yard. If accompanied by a walker they could just explain to the friendly farmer why you have parked in his yard.
From the yard the route is level going on a smooth hard surface. Two sets of kilns are adjacent to the route with information boards giving some history of the mines. The route is easy going until the Dale Head farm cafe signpost about a mile beyond the kilns. It's worth going beyond the kilns as you can see more of the buildings and chimney once you turn around. The embankment close to the cafe sign and footpath is safe enough wi5h a smooth surface but it is scary if you have no head for heights.
The North York Moors National Park have ambitious plans to extend the route around the Dale head to the Lion Inn.
