With great views over Rosedale and Farndale, this linear route follows the old ironstone railway which ran from Battersby Junction to the mines either side of Rosedale valley. This section can be started from either the Lion Inn or Rosedale Chimney Bank Top where remains of the calcining kilns used for roasting the ironstone can be seen.

If starting from the Lion Inn there is a section of road to the next car park so take care.
