A moderate, marked circuit that runs along Lake Tarnița, climbs to the Piatra lui Lucaci viewpoint, and returns fairly gently through the forest to the starting point.

The reason for the popularity of this route is perhaps that many people are attracted by the beauty of the landscape at the viewpoint.

The walk on the route next to the lake is similar to a stroll. Interesting views of the water open up at some points and you can admire the cottages on the other side. The path has slight ups and downs, but nothing prepares the hiker for the strenuous climb to Piatra lui Lucaci. The dense forest provides shade and can offer shelter in case of rain.

The climb to the viewpoint takes 15-20 minutes, depending on your pace, and is very steep. But the effort is amply rewarded by the beautiful view of the greenish peaks of the Gilău-Muntele Mare mountain range.

For the continuation of the circuit, you climb for another 10 minutes or so through the forest. On the plateau, a view of the Turda Gorge opens up. The second part of the trail leads almost exclusively through the forest without offering anything spectacular, changing from a path to an ATV or cart track. You eventually reach the same point where you started.

Author’s recommendation

The circuit can be done in both directions. I think this option is preferable; if we had gone the other way, we would have climbed about 80%.

Safety information

After rains or in the rain, the ripples on the path leading along the lake may present a slipping hazard (on the ground or roots).

Tips and hints

Although it's a popular route, the fact that it's on a circuit helps avoid overcrowding. At the lookout point there is space for more than one person.
