This is a remote area of open access moorland managed mainly for grouse shooting. The scooter user needs to be equipped for bad weather and accompanied by an able-bodied person for support and to open boundary gates.

The 8.5 km (5.3 mile) route starts up hill on a single-track road with passing places before turning right onto a mainly grassy but rough and rutted bridleway. It crosses a small stream in Grinton Gill and care needs to be taken to find a suitable crossing place. (Not sure how deep this would be after heavy rain). The route then continues upwards and onto a moorland shooting track, reaching the disused mine workings at top of High Harker Hill.

The moorland tracks are generally 2 metres (6 feet) wide with a gravel surface. There are some short battery sapping climbs of at least 1 in 5.

As this is a remote exposed moorland, be prepared for a change of weather.

The route starts at about 320 metres (1050 feet) above sea level and reaches about 460 metres (1500 feet).
