Dream loop “Rund um den Zauberwald”
The dream loop extends the "Zauberwald" nature adventure path from four to ten kilometres. The trail is perfect for families and is easy to shorten in route.
An adventurous trail starting from the spring complex of the Sauerbrunnen. The adjacent premium walking trail “Little dream loop Enchanted Forest”, the direct location at the Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park, the enchanted Hambach Rock, the 25m high Hattgenstein lookout tower and the magnificent view from the Weißenstein are just a few highlights of this premium trail.
A highlight for children: the directly adjacent premium walking trail little dream loop “Enchanted Forest” with its forest master “Willy Wurzel”. The dream loop “Zauberwald” was rated 66 experience points by the German Hiking Institute.

Information for dog owners:
- Level of difficulty: medium, little tarmac, few narrow paths, well suited for an adventurous dog walk over uneven terrain
- Distractions: Over the course of the dream loop “Around the Enchanted Forest”, country or district roads have to be crossed from time to time, roads can sometimes be heard, but this does not detract from the hiking experience. There is a medium volume of hikers on the premium trail, so you should expect to encounter oncoming hikers.
- Water/shade: The dream loop “Around the Enchanted Forest” leads mainly through wooded terrain. Direct access to water is available to hikers and their four-legged friends at various points on the route.
- Rubbish bins/cleanliness: On the dream loop “Around the Enchanted Forest”, the principle of “what you take on the trail goes home with you” is applied as far as possible. There are only rubbish bins available at selected points. The waste from dogs and humans should not be left on/along the trail so that the enjoyment of the trail is maintained for all
Start
Destination
Turn-by-turn directions
The tour begins at the Sauerbrunnen car park. From here, clockwise first uphill through the enchanted forest, past the "Hambacher Felsen" and up to the observation tower. Right next door, there is the opportunity to stop off at the Rothenburghütte. Nicely refreshed, the trail first goes downhill to the Schwollbach stream. This is crossed, followed by a steep climb to the “Weißenstein” viewpoint. From here, it is a few hundred metres until the Schwollbach Valley is reached again.
We cross the stream again, just behind the Schwollen mineral water companies. If you like, you can take a detour to the nearby Schwollen open-air swimming pool - small but a nice place to take a break halfway along the trail. The trail now leads uphill past the youth centre to Hattgenstein, where a visit to the historic bell house is a must. Now continue downhill through wide meadows to Oberhambach and down to the Hambachtal holiday park. Exactly a few metres on you can stop here for a bite to eat at the Tarifa Fun inn. It is not much further now to the Sauerbrunnen, which marks the end of the tour.
