EuroVelo 6 in Călărași & Giurgiu and beyond
The route can be covered in stages, each cyclist or group of cyclists establishing the daily distances. The route is marked, having a few accommodation possibilities along the way, including camping. Given the low altitude variation, cyclists with little experience or children should also try this route, or part of it, adapting the distances to their endurance.
To alternate the biking periods or days, one might also want to try fishing in the Mostiștea Valley, boat trips or a kayak tour in the Comana Park, a visit to a museum, or a craft workshop.
A pair of binoculars is a must in your backpack. Both the wetland in the Neajlov Delta (Comana) and lakes near the Ciocănești fish farm are important nesting areas for various species of birds.
Although seemingly unattractive to tourists, this area of Bărăgan Plains holds enough attractions and sights to keep you or your family entertained for an entire weekend or longer. In the villages, you can find craftsmen (blacksmiths, carpenters) or local producers ready to welcome your visit. Far from benefiting from the tourist infrastructure of other more developed tourist areas, a bike ride through Călărași and Giurgiu targets amateurs of new bike tours and long walks, sometimes under a scorching sun, amateurs of long, flat patches of land, or those who want to explore non-touristy regions in Romania.
