The protected area is much less explored and exploited by mass tourism than other neighboring national parks due to infrastructure.
There's only one national road cutting through the national park. At one end there's the Băile Herculane thermal resort - a former gem of the Banat region. It continues to attract a segment of tourists looking for thermal baths, leisurely walks, and fresh air, but not the number of past times.
At the same time, Băile Herculane is an important starting point for many hiking trails, on both sides of the national road, leading to the Domogled reservation or to the Belareca reservation.
Within the national park, there are several protected areas, some part of the UNESCO natural heritage. The rocky slopes, creeks, and forests are home to some rare floristic species. The relief represents a combination of mountain and Mediterranean landscape, resulting in great faunal diversity.
The views here have remained for a long time known to small groups that used to venture up in the mountains, Until recently, when the national television filmed a coverage on hardships of the isolated communities in settlements such as Dobraia, Prisăcina, Ineleț. Today, more and more hikers are venturing on the marked routes leading to these settlements, which have become an opportunity to experience an authentic type of tourism. The ladder path to Ineleț - the only quick access road to the settlement - is now a touristic attraction.
Last but not least, Cerna Valley is a paradise for adventure tourism lovers. Alpine climbing has a long tradition here and currently, there are about 600 approved traditional and mixed escalade routes. If the waters allow it, Cerna is ideal for rafting, and the numerous gorges are now explored for canyoning trails.
