Where to spend a romantic Indian summer in Banat or Crișana

If you've ever toyed with the idea of exploring the Banat beyond Timișoara, but don't know where to start, we've come to your aid with the best places to go this autumn. On the other hand, Indian summer days are also in full swing in Crișana. The caves, glaciers, gorges and waterfalls of the Apuseni Mountains make up a natural landscape that is hard to ignore in the autumn months.

The most beautiful places for an autumn hike

When autumn is more than friendly, discreetly making its presence felt through the distinct colouring of the forest foliage, you can't miss the opportunity to explore the wonders of mountain Banat. The Cheile Nerei-Beușnița National Park is a jewel to be admired in all its splendour in the autumn months. Don't hesitate to take a relaxing walk to the natural wonders of Beusnița Waterfalls, Cheile Nerei or Bigăr Waterfalls. However, don't stop at just these as the protected area is enchanting in its entirety and the scenery will take your breath away.

A little higher up in Bihor county, in the Crișurilor Country, you will certainly reach the tourist areas of Padiș-Arieșeni. Once you've established your campsite or resting place, wherever you look, you'll find marked trails leading to karst plateaus, forests and gorges that beg to be explored.

Where are we cycling this autumn

Early autumn, when mass tourism is slowing down, is also the ideal time to explore the water mills at Rudăria. By bike! As well as the pleasure of pedalling a few kilometres, it's a great opportunity to admire the mark that autumn slowly, slowly leaves on the forest along the way.

Small towns in Banat and Crișana - such as Anina, Oravița, Aleșd, Șuncuiuș, Huedin, Bulz - can be your starting point for a lot of rides of a few hours on bike. Don't forget your camera, water and some snacks. The romantic scenery is sure to steal you away and you'll be tempted to linger longer. Combine your MTB rides with one or two-day escapades for abseiling, zip-lining, canyoning in the Bihor Mountains, or kayaking on the Crișul Repede.

Last but not least, the Indian summer is a last chance to venture on the TransSemenic - the road in Banat over the mountains. If you're feeling fit and have an equipped bike, don't miss the chance!
