Light the Beacons - The Queen's Platinum Jubilee 2022

From St Agnes Beacon in Cornwall to Ditchling Beacon in Sussex and the Brecon Beacons in South Wales, beacons on Britain's hilltops have been lit time and again throughout the history of this land; used by Roman Legionaries to send messages, by Kentish fishermen to send warnings of an approaching armada, but also to celebrate grand occasions.

On 2nd June 2022, the beacons will be lit once again, throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and UK Overseas Territories, to mark Her Majesty The Queen’s 70th year as Monarch - her Platinum Jubilee - a feat no previous monarch has achieved.

Naturally situated at the highest or most significant points of each county, the UK's beacons are centre-points for excellent walking opportunities, including mountain peaks, castle battlements, traditional town and village greens, parks and along beaches and clifftops.

Have you visited all the beacons in your county? View the list below to find your nearest beacon, and follow the links to see selections of nearby walking routes. Following the routes via the basic version of the app is free but if you want to see the routes on fully featured Ordnance Survey maps you may wish to upgrade to Outdooractive Pro.
