Flavours of Romania - Muntenia
Muntenia, also known as the Great Wallachia, is a historic region in the south of Romania. It includes the central and eastern part of Wallachia.

The name of this region first appeared in the chronicles of the first Moldovan rulers, and by Muntenia the whole territory of the Romanian Country was understood. Muntenia together with Oltenia formed the medieval principality of the Romanian Country (Wallachia), starting with the reign of Basarab I, and until the unification of the principalities from 1859.
Until the 18th century, the name Wallachia extended also to Oltenia, which only after the Habsburg rule. it began to be perceived as a distinct historical region.
