Explore the traditional Bucovina
As in Maramures, tourism in Bukovina has an important traditional component thanks to the numerous monasteries. This makes Bucovina an ideal destination for families or for a quiet vacation with children. However, at certain times of the year (Easter or Christmas) it can get very crowded.
A route of monasteries can start in the north in Putna, go down to Moldovița, Sucevița, Arbore, with obligatory stops in Humor and Voroneț monasteries; then cross the border with Bukovina in Neamț and end in Agapia and Văratec. Considering the distances, it is recommended to cover the route by own/rented car or caravan. The Via Transilvanica trail also connects the first 3 places, so travelers can hike or bike the trails (in stages) - with family or friends.
A custom from Bucovina that has become famous far beyond the borders of Romania is egg baking. If you visit Bukovina around Easter, you will surely have the opportunity to attend a special workshop.
Outdoor Bucovina - hiking, biking, glamping or rafting
A must-see in Bucovina is also the Transrarăul, the most beautiful (paved) road in the region. It's a favourite with motorcyclists, a challenge for cyclists, but also a route with numerous viewpoints, or places from which you can climb to sights such as Pietrele Doamnei or Rarău peak.
The resort of Vatra Dornei is locally famous for its thermal waters. Today, Vatra Dornei is one of the most important destinations in Bucovina for spa treatments, but also for mountaineering and downhill and cross-country skiing.
